The Witch

20th Anniversary

The Witch has been with me for twenty years. I first wrote it in October 2005, as I was preparing to move from Kalamazoo to Chicago, excited for what lay ahead but wistful for what I was leaving behind. Born out of longing and the ache of not having what you want, the song has taken on many forms over the years.

Two decades later, I have revisited it once more, closer to the original acoustic guitar and bare vocals, with a special addition: my sister, Jenn Reid, who composed and performed the violin parts. Her playing gives the song a haunting new depth while keeping its roots intact.

Since high school · still going

Nick and I have been making music together since we were teenagers, and the partnership has never really stopped. We started as Heavier Than Heaven, became Hypermodal, and now record under our own names. Across every version of it, we have toured, traveled, and recorded side by side.

Our early album, Grey When Black Will Do, still carries the Heavier Than Heaven name on its cover, but lives on streaming under Hypermodal.

The studio

I built a place to
make records.

After twenty years behind the console, I opened Echogeist in San Francisco. A full recording studio for tracking, mixing, mastering, and production, with a hybrid analog and digital signal chain and a room built to sound like a record.

If you are making something, come make it here. Sessions are open for artists, bands, podcasters, and anyone with a sound in their head they want to get down properly.
