Slipping On The Surface

Thursday, June 24th, 2010

they’re coming for heads
and they”ll stop
at nothing
giant plumes engulf the creatures
we’ve already compromised
sinking chrome and plastic moans escape from
the recently paralyzed

somebody’s got a hold

there’s silence ahead
plugging holes with greedy life vests
picking spots with soiled pies to treat us
ripping tar across the sky
puncture wounds and darkened glue
erase our
delicate vital signs

somebody’s got a hold

of your mind.

Artemis Rehearsal

Thursday, February 25th, 2010

One of the many attractive things that lured me to the San Francisco Bay Area, besides the weather and medicine, is the fact that the talented Artemis also resides in this region. I did a remix of one her songs that is featured on Digital Bliss Volume 2 and on her most recent release Auralei. After moving here, I was introduced to the crowd at RTFM Records through Artemis. This is most loving group of talented people I have met in this life. I was immediately invited into their circle, and they have all been helping me with the release of hello, inner sunset as well.

So, after being asked to join the awesome collective that is RTFM Records along side some amazingly talented artists such as Colfax, Divasonic, Hands Upon Black Earth, Mijo and of course Artemis, I was also asked by Artemis to join her band to help bring her live show to the stage. This is a great thrill and honor to me. I am super pumped about it!

Last night we had our first full on rehearsal here at my place in the Haight. It was magical, funny, fantastic, musical, brilliant and inspiring all at once! We are preparing for a show on the 25th that is a release party hosted by Groovera and WomensRadio for myself, Artemis and Colfax at Harlot here in SF (show info). We also have a gig at Swig hosted by Below Zero Beats on April 1st (show info). Daniel Berkman (Colfax), a super talented multi-instrumentalist, was jamming the guitar parts, I was looping and mixing and bleeping and blooping, and Artemis was of course singing. Here is a nice stereo mix I managed to grab of an improv loopy thing we had going for a second.

Artemis also posted a nice blog this morning about our time last night. Go give it a read and check out the video clips she recorded!

Remastered: Letum

Wednesday, February 3rd, 2010

As I move forward with my musical journey, I find myself looking back at some of my old music. I am digging through my back catalog and remastering some of my past projects so I can re-release them all to you.

Some of the tracks I wish I could remix all together, but a lot of this was done before I had the means to buy backup drives and such, so the original session files are all gone. But that is OK – I think this is better anyway – I can’t change it. I just have to let it live the way I originally intended.

So, to mark the anniversary of the day the music died, I am releasing a remastered 3 part requiem from 2005 titled letum.

This is an instrumental piece that sits heavily on the ambient/electronic/orchestral boundaries. This is not intended to be uplifting by any means – it is a requiem, which webster-merriam defines as a musical composition in honor of the dead.

You can find it at the Daniel Durrett store. And, you can name your price – no minimum!

This is for my father.
