A synopsis of ‘Hello, Inner Sunset’

Sunday, March 14th, 2010

This was written by good friend and super talented artist, Ray Swaney. Enjoy!

Chase The Morning Fog; sun is rising and I’m wet with hope, crisp. The playful bloops and electronic blips play in the road like children and over the fields as I’m lifted into the star-filled sky. Break free; open like a bloom headed West to touch a dream.

Followed Into His House; a sinister specter B&E enters into the heartbeat. A singer with serrated teeth narrates zoo keeper surreality, stuck in a loop, ever unraveling as animals turn tables.

Carson City; where cops eyeball for loose mistakes. A call to know and outsmart the law. Don’t show your hand as strings whorl. A Subterranean Homesick Blues rapper fights on with a heavy, greasy guitar twang.

Entrance; womb music to African chants is played by Descartes (in my head). A song of ashes dance in the wind to a simple beat (a beatific filling of the lungs).

Wasting Our Minds; we’re not starting a clap around a bonfire. Tambourine and acoustic guitar at home in a park of golden gates. We cut the dangling carrots down. The pressure builds like a distorted guitar crescendo in absence of inspired existence.

Will Spite You; the devil’s vintage going down like sinister calls of “WAKE UP,” fates preconceived notions of happiness with two voices in sync. A cautionary tale laid across the country. Hold the light inside.

Close Up; ominous tones and jewels flare up with a tang of 80s astral prom. I’m awash in synthesizer bliss, frothing up like a San Francinno (coming to a head like a tea pot crying for cool release).

Sonnenuntergang; the angels play with distorted guitars and woodland creatures play logs. Myriad layers, a fortress of sound is drowning in aural fire (opening a door). I slip out unnoticed to pick flowers. An open plain surfaces like a submariner.

Forward Thinking Politics; now is the time we’re starving. We’re dying on the vine. Pumping loops and the piano gongs; wars over definitions and for money. Tired, where is the healthy human commerce? Driving a car and you can’t see over the steering wheel.

Artemis Rehearsal

Thursday, February 25th, 2010

One of the many attractive things that lured me to the San Francisco Bay Area, besides the weather and medicine, is the fact that the talented Artemis also resides in this region. I did a remix of one her songs that is featured on Digital Bliss Volume 2 and on her most recent release Auralei. After moving here, I was introduced to the crowd at RTFM Records through Artemis. This is most loving group of talented people I have met in this life. I was immediately invited into their circle, and they have all been helping me with the release of hello, inner sunset as well.

So, after being asked to join the awesome collective that is RTFM Records along side some amazingly talented artists such as Colfax, Divasonic, Hands Upon Black Earth, Mijo and of course Artemis, I was also asked by Artemis to join her band to help bring her live show to the stage. This is a great thrill and honor to me. I am super pumped about it!

Last night we had our first full on rehearsal here at my place in the Haight. It was magical, funny, fantastic, musical, brilliant and inspiring all at once! We are preparing for a show on the 25th that is a release party hosted by Groovera and WomensRadio for myself, Artemis and Colfax at Harlot here in SF (show info). We also have a gig at Swig hosted by Below Zero Beats on April 1st (show info). Daniel Berkman (Colfax), a super talented multi-instrumentalist, was jamming the guitar parts, I was looping and mixing and bleeping and blooping, and Artemis was of course singing. Here is a nice stereo mix I managed to grab of an improv loopy thing we had going for a second.

Artemis also posted a nice blog this morning about our time last night. Go give it a read and check out the video clips she recorded!
